Horizontal Wood Fence
This design has increased in popularity over the last few years as it is a break from the normal vertical fence and has a lot of versatility with colors and material. Overall, it’s a stylish and clean look that works best with step ups and step downs to transition over the undulation of the land. The horizontal panels are installed at a set distance apart and may expand as the wood dries out so a popular picket spacing is between 1/4″-1/8″ which may expand naturally to 3/8″-1/2″ within weeks or months after installation is complete. Staining the wood is not required for pressure treated wood but may increase the lifespan of the product significantly and is worth considering as an upgrade.
